Skepa
Skepa is a French artist, born in 1978
He graduated at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, as a painter and sculpteror. He began with painting, inspired by the graffiti in the early nineties.
In time his painting became more experimental, more raw and open to new influences. He got inspired by Brauner, Matisse, Corneille and Braque.
The rawness of the street art, we can still find in his work, graffiti on linen.
When he discovered the work of Picasso a whole new world opened for him.
He is very much inspired by the cubism of Picasso, as well by the primitive art of Cobra. It helped him discovering his own, recognizable style.
Some art critics related his pictural production to an UFO, with several tentacles, where organic cubism, with a little bit figuration, in harmony mixed with a cleansed version of contemporary art.
You can find Skepa in his atelier on a daily base. He is not afraid to work on big canvases. He has made works from 3 by 2 meter. He has admirers all over the world. It is quite possible that there will be an Skepa Museum in the near future, close to Paris.
