Bodi Rongen

BODI paints refined and detailed symbolic images. Working from a realistic point of view, his paintings are rich in meaning and decorative elements. Images of landscapes, mysterious gardens, woodlands and distant mountain ranges are transformed into a close encounter with the soul of the viewer. With his illusionary world Bodi makes us aware of the dualities of life. The love for nature and gracious man made objects are like music in the background of our crowded daily life; it is a melody that invites us to halt and enjoy the inner beauty of things. Bodi’s paintings are able to mirror our desire for peace and harmony. As George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) put it: “You use a glass mirror to see your face, you use works of art to see your soul.” The paintings are done in acrylics on wood and more recently on canvas. By means of a complex tempera and glazing technique they are built up in thin layers. The depth and intensity of colours differ, depending on the amount of light a painting catches. As a result, the atmosphere of a particular work may greatly change, varying from reserved to exuberant. The various tones of gold that appear in many works consist of ormolu powders, occasionally mixed with acrylic media. Gold and silver leaf in different weights (16 24 carats) are also often employed.
